Adobe Premiere Pro Pr ( Adobe Premiere Pro) is a non - linear editing software Shortcuts for Pr: Space bar is for play and pause Arrow keys - left and right keys for advancing and going back on the timeline cmd - z - undo cmd x - cut  cmd c - copy  cmd v - paste i = in (palm on space bar) (this is good when audio and video editing) o = out (palm on space bar) (this is good when audio and video editing) z= zoom in (this is good for precision editing such as syncing audio to video) v= stop zoom First all I created a new project, and then created new bins calling them audio and footage. I then imported all the required videos into the video bin and the audio track in the audio bin. I then had to try and sync the audio (.wav track) with the video so they were synchronised. With Luke we looked into the importance of narrative in media products such as TV and film, and how it plays an important part in keeping the audience interested in what their watching. We looked at the three key theorists of narrative. Todorov He believed: The fictional environment begins with a state of equilibrium, e.g. everything is as it should be in a state of equal balance between powers of any kind. With Justin we looked at the different types of sounds used in TV and film and what effect and information they communicated to the audience. There are 3 types of sound: Dialogue Music Sound effects Dialogue Dialogue is the words spoken by the characters within a scene. It can provide background information and it can also give the audience a sense of who the character that is speaking is like and their personality. Dialogue can also portray emotion. The volume of the dialogue can be adjusted to create the mood. For example if someone is angry they may raise the volume of their voice to emphasise the anger they feel and if they are feeling sad, they may lower the volume of their voice and have a soft tone. A voiceover is when a omniscient narrator or character talks over images/scenes. The Frame Today with James Fox we learnt about everything to do with frames in video. I took the following notes: 25fps on video in UK (50Hz) - Called P. A. L in UK (Phase Alternating Line) 2 Fields - Upper/uneven field and lower/even field - Scanning of the frame Jaggies - if you  stop video on a certain frame -  you can see the behavior of the fields (Jaggies) Interlaced - upper and lower fields joining together/ coming together/ different fields come together Progressive 1920 -length x 1080 - width - pixels - HD (High definition) 6fps - humans can see a flicker 16:9 aspect ratio - standard size for HD I also learnt about how to organise media content into bins in Adobe Premiere Pro. These are my ideas for the Photoshop poster design that we did with Tony. After careful thought and consideration I chose to go with the theme of global warming and saving our planet as this is a really current and important issue that needs attention especially among the people in my class as they are part of the younger generation which are my target audience. I did have an idea at one point to do a poster on my favorite band called 'Muse' however I thought that my target audience (my class) might not be interested in this as everybody has very different tastes of music and they might not enjoy the rock music this band makes. Different shot types There are 8 main different shot types that are really important in film-making. In this post I will discuss the main ones and how these communicate information to an audience. Extreme Long Shot (ELS) A wide view of a complete setting, such as a cityscape or a scene with mountains in the background. Establishing shot Gives context to the scene Emphasises the background. It can show how powerful nature is versus us humans and make us feel small and vulnerable Camera is at a very far distance from the subject Long Shot (LS) A view of a scene that is shot from a considerable distance so that people appear as indistinct shapes. Today we learnt about working out the intended audience and other information for different media products and other things like their purpose. This was very interesting as it allowed us to debate as a class on who the intended audience was for different media products, and it's fair to say some of us had very different opinions. Target audience is key when working out what sort of marketing campaign the film is going to take to attract wide audiences. I have chosen to look at a movie called 'Captain Philips' which is all about a ship that is taken over by modern day pirates of the coast of Somalia. I am going to be working out the primary function of the movie, the genre, the target audience and the purpose of the movie. During the induction I met the course leaders, their names and what role they specialized in. In addition we did numerous activities to get to know other people on the course, and again learn their names. It was good to meet other like minded people that share a passion for media like I do. One of the activities we did was a treasure hunt around the college campus, which helped me learn where everything was located and made the college campus seem less daunting. Another activity we started on the induction was completing our first Creative Media project entitled "The Object". We were split into groups of three and had to make a video about the object we were given; my group was given a hip-flask. It took a while for us to come up with a good idea in the group that would be achievable and easy enough to film and be no longer than one minute long.
